The two iksar had barely left childhood and begun their adolescence. They sat, crosslegged and naked in a torchlit room, a brace of knives between them.
The words of the Claw instructor seemed to ring still, nearly half an hour later: "One of you will leave this room alive. Or neither of you will."
We had trained together daily for two years now. I knew Ylek was fast. But I was faster.
