The children are led into a wide room with a low ceiling, with cloth sacks on their heads.
"Your partners have been selected. You will train together, in all exercises. If one of you fails, you both fail. The Claw is only as strong as its weakest member."
The children milled and murmured, hearing the words but not truly understanding their impact. All were far too distracted by one tantalizing thought: a friend.
