Additional notes: The first in the Root line of spells. This line immobilizes the target, keeping them in place. The target can still attack anything that gets close enough to them, and unlike mezzing, the creature can still cast, and summon (if it has the ability too). Some creatures are immune to roots and snares completely. Rooting is one forms of crowd control, but tends to require the most communication in order to work effectively. All roots have a chance of breaking early whenever a DD land, so care should be taken when using the two spells in succession. Even if you do nothing, roots have a chance to break every tick, the chance being relative to the magic resistance of the enemy. Lowering their magic resistance should lead to longer roots.
